Born in Macau in December 1951. Graduated in Fine Arts and Design with Excellence, from the Fine Arts University of Lisbon, E.S.B.A.L.
Painter, writer, illustrator, photographer, art director, graphic, interior, exhibition and fashion designer. Cultural leader in Macau since 1978, responsible for formulating the Municipal Cultural Policy.

1965

• Directs, draws and writes a youth page in the daily “Notícias de Macau” (Macau News) at age 14.

1968

• Holds his first Individual Exhibition of caricatures and oil paintings in Macau at age 17. 

• Joins the Lisbon School of Fine Arts.

• Classmate of Fernando Calhau and Julião Sarmento.

• Begins engraving at Gravura (Engraving Cooperative) under the guidance of João Hogan.

1970 

• Participates in a collective exhibition at Gravura Cooperative.

1971 - 74

• Interrupts his studies for the Mandatory Military Service in Macau.

• Creates a large a pannel for the headquarters of Banco Comercial de Macau.

• Returns to Portugal in July.

1975

• Completes the Arts and Design Course at the Fine Arts University of Lisbon with distinction. 

• Collective exhibition at Gallery S. Francisco with Beatriz, Fernando Calhau and Julião Sarmento.

• Becomes a teacher at the Alverca do Ribatejo Secondary School.

1976

• Invited to represent Portugal as an illustrator, together with cartoonist SAM, at the 12th Congress of Graphic Stories in Lucca - Italy.

• He sees his Graphic Story Album Wong Fei Hong - Wind of Shantung published by Edibanda.

• Remains a teacher at the Secondary School of Alverca do Ribatejo.

1977

• Returns to Macau at the invitation of Governor Garcia Leandro, conducting a survey of the cultural situation in Macau. He proposes the creation of an Arts Center.

1978

• Becomes Curator-Director of the Luís de Camões Museum. • Launches ARTIS magazine.

1979

• With the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation begins the first restoration of the Luís de Camões Museum, of which he is the Curator-Director.

• Proposes the creation of the first Temporary Exhibition Gallery in Macau.

• The President of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Dr. Azeredo Perdigão visits Macau and the Luís de Camões Museum in particular, to assess his project for a Macau Fortnight at the Gulbenkian Foundation.

1980

• Secures the 1st Cultural Exchange Agreement between Macau and Hong Kong.

1981

• Individual exhibition Acrylics, Myths and Frames at the invitation of the Hong Kong Arts Center.

• Organizes the 1st Outside Animation Show at the Luís de Camões Museum.

• Held, in collaboration with Galeria 111 the 1st ever Contemporary Portuguese Engravings Exhibition in Macau.

1982

• Invited by the Macau Issuing Institute, designs the new circulation coins, in addition to commemorative coins of Chinese lunar signs. Its silver, gold and platinum editions are reissued three times.

• Specializes in banknote design at Bradbury Wilkinson and visits the Deutsche Bundesbank Counterfeit Museum.

• He is invited by the Macau Issuing Institute to coordinate the Macau Numismatic, Notafilic and Medallist Office, having managed to obtain a collection of coins from the Roman period to the Portuguese Republic. Proposes a Museum for that office. Never got off the ground.

• Invited by Macau Post Office, he designs the base issue of 24 stamps from Macau and five special collections.

1983

• Invited to Art Director at Hyatt Regency Macau.

• Editing of your first photo album, FRAMES.

• Promotes thematic exchange exhibitions between Portugal, Macau and P.R. of China.

• Designs the Interiors and Graphic Image of PAK YUN Restaurant (North Garden) at Estoril, Portugal.

1984

• Appointed Head of the Department of Recreational and Cultural Services of the Macau City Counci.

• The Guanzhou Department of Culture, in recognition of the work done, offers 50 antique pieces to the Luís de Camões Museum.

• Organizes the 1st Urban Cultural Animation Show in Macau.

Macau Designers Association is created. Elected President of the Association.

1985

• Organizes a Cycle of Commemorative Exhibitions of the XXV Anniversary of the Luís de Camões Museum.

• Interested in Fashion. Opens with two partners, a tailor-made Boutique in Macau, Classic Harmony.

1986

• Publishing of his second photo album Portugal by the Side of the Road on the occasion of Portugal National Day.

• Exhibits photographs from the same Album at the Portuguese Bookshop Gallery.

• Invited to decorate a Hyatt Art Hotel in Australia.

• Re-elected President of the Macau Designers Association.

• Proposes and co-organizes the Cycle of the Last Hundred Years of Portuguese Painting, with the collaboration of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

1987

• Participates in the 1st Collective Exhibition of Designers of Macau, in the area of ​​Fashion Creation as the first fashion designer in Macau.

• Organizes the exhibition Last Hundred Years of Chinese Painting

• The Luís de Camões Museum, under his guidance, receives two Grand Prizes from the Portuguese Language Museum Triennial for the best set of catalogs and best set of exhibitions: Cycle of the Last Hundred Years of Portuguese Painting.

1988

• Named Cultural Adviser to the Governor of Macau, Carlos Melancia.

• Is also invited by the Macau Governor to head the Macau Cultural Complex Office.

• Participates, as a guest artist of the Circle of Friends of Culture, in a Collective Exhibition at the Gallery of Portuguese Bookshop - Macau.

1989

• Organizes the first survey of the cultural appetites of the population of Macau.

• Holds a Meeting for the implementation of the Cultural Center, involving Portuguese experts and art associations from Macao, ensuring maximum legitimacy to the project.

• The Implementation Plan and subsequent Feasibility Study for the Macau Cultural Center ensure full viability for hisproject.

1990

• Edition of his third photo album Visions.

• Appointed, by the Governor of Macau, Coordinator of Macau Promotional Actions in Lisbon on the occasion of the inauguration of the Macau Representation Office in Lisbon.

• In this context, it organizes the Macau Past and Present Exhibitions at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Macau Spell, at the Macau Mission.

• Presents at Casino Estoril its first Fashion Show under the theme The East Route, which deserves the best praise from critics.

1991

1992

• Again at the invitation of EXPOWEAR • FIL, he presents its Winter Collection named  Mandhala, at the Top of the World, a journey into Tibetan garments.

1993

• At the invitation of the Governor of Macau, he designed and organized the Macau, the Silk Route Exhibition at the Palace of Queluz.

• Presentation of the Winter Collection NAM BAN at Casa de Serralves and in Macau.

• Elected Correspondent Member of National Society of Fine-Arts.

• Launch in Portugal of his fourth Album Envelopments presented by Dr. José Carlos de Vasconcelos, and published by Gradiva.

• Macao presents the Summer Collection Body of Silk - Traces of Silk.

• Also participates as a speaker in the Fashion Panel of the Meeting on Investment opportunities promoted by the Investment Promotion Institute in Macau, where he proposes the creation of a Southeast Asian Fashion Festival in Macau.

• Appointed Director of Macau Forum. Proposes a Master Plan for the recovery and use of the premises. The Recreational and Cultural Services he runs are located at said Forum.

• Holds the China Five Dynasty Garments Show in Macau.

• Designs for the Macau Insurance Company the Commemorative Medal of its X Anniversary.

1994

• Presentation in Beijing of his MOTHER CHINA Collection taking with it some Portuguese industry still with an incipient understanding of the magnitude of China.

• Appointed Beijing International Fashion Consultant.

• Guest, during the Beijing Fashion Fair, he gave a Conference on the theme Interculturalism and Fashion • A multisecular History

• Presentation of the Amrhitsar Collection in Dalian. Appointed International Fashion Consultant to the Dalian Designers' Association.

1995

• Parade of the Namasté Autumn-Winter 95 Collection in Macau • Hotel New Century.

• Commissioner, together with Dr. Arlete Alves da Silva and Manuel de Brito, the Manuel de Brito Collection Exhibition - Images of the Portuguese Painting of the 20th. Century during the visit of Portuguese President Mario Soares, previously presented at the Museu do Chiado, Lisbon.

• Participates in Macau in the Organization of the Congress of AICA, International Association of Art Critics.

• Presents the first installation in Macau, called Metamorphosis of the Void, with Anthropologist Carlos Morais José, for the AICA Congress.

• Together with a group of enthusiasts creates A.M.E.D.A.F.O. - Association for the Study and Development of Aikido and Eastern Philosophies.

2000 

• For his proposal and design, he created the Macau Cooperation and Development Foundation's website of which he is Cultural Consultant, placing the Exhibitions held also in the virtual space.

• Travels to Ping Yao, a walled city and Cultural Heritage of Humanity for a photographic survey with a view to an exhibition, publication of a book and a Seminar on Heritage Cities and Contemporary.

• Proposes the realization of an Exhibition, together with the Anthropologist and Journalist Carlos Morais José, entitled Kang Xi and the First Globalization that has no institutional reception.

• Proposes the holding of a Chinese Opera Festival involving the four different Chinese schools. Proposal without institutional acceptance.

• Carries out the preparatory work for a photo exhibition that he designates as Zen Images following his trip to Japan.

• Following this visit, he writes in Kyoto the story Kamogawa’s Myst.

2002

• Presents two conferences at the Macao Museum of Art: The history of the Macao Museum since the 19th century and the Iconography of Design.

• Invited as an External Examiner to the School of Arts and Design of the Polytechnic Institute of Macau. Subsequently, he would be invited to conduct workshops on cultural and semiotic decoding.

• Invited by the director of Macau Today, he became responsible for a page he called Trading Post, dedicated to the essence of the city as a place of exchange.

• Coordinates the Enamel Icons Exhibition from France, at the Macao Museum of Art.

• Invited to participate in a CEM re-decoration contest, he presents the project Symbolism and Space long before the 9/11 Memorial in New York. Inexplicably the competition is canceled

• Member of the Jury of the 5th Macau Design Biennial. He writes a reflection on the topic.

2003 

• Responsible for and coordinator of the Exhibition for the 1st Centenary of the Birth of George Smirnoff at the Macao Museum of Art.

• Coordination of the Marta Nishimura Exhibition at the Macao Museum of Art.

• Again invited to teach at the School of Arts and Design of the Polytechnic Institute as an extraordinary teacher.

• Invited by Discovery Channel to present a documentary about Macau. • Interviewed by Lyn Kienholz, President of the Netropolitan Foundation for a series of television programs about authors from around the world.

• Invited by the Guangzhou International Documentary Festival Organization to design the logo and produce the contest catalog.

• Receives a new invitation from Macau Today. Write a weekly page called Conversations of Coffee and Tea.

• Invited to participate in two films by French director Michale Boganim about Camilo Pessanha in Macau and about a text from her “Conversations of Tea and Coffee”.

• Directs and edits the book Pedro Guimarães - Decoração.

• The Macau Designers Association awards the Career Award. Lifetime Achievement Award. • Invited by IPOR to design the commemorative mark for its 15th Anniversary.

• Invited to be a member of the Jury of the Contest for the image of the East Asian Games 2005 • Invited to be a member of the Jury, Painting Section of Macau, for the 10th Exhibition of Fine Arts of the People's Republic of China.

2005 

• Invited by the Polytechnic Institute of Macau for a late Retrospective Exhibition of his 25 years of activity.

• Creator, Coordinator and Commissioner of the Masters of Fire Exhibition.

• Officially travels to the Republic of Korea to prepare the Korean presentation for his History of Steel project in East Asia.

2006

• Coordinates the History of Steel Exhibition in East Asia, involving armory from China, Korea, Japan, the Philippines and the geographic space formerly known as Indochina. It is the first worldwide exhibition on the subject.

• Coordinates and curates the Luís Demée Exhibition "Diluted Time" at the Macao Museum of Art.

• Starts the preparation of an individual photography exhibition.

• Conceives and designs a collection of stamps at the invitation of the Macao Post.

2007

• Curator for the photo exhibition by Robert Doisneau

• Conceives and designs a new stamp collection at the invitation of the Macao Post Office.

• Appointed curator for the exhibition of Louvre works on arts in ancient Athens to be presented in 2008 at the Macao Museum of Art. He calls it Plato in the lands of Confucius

• Finalizes the preparation of his Macrocosmos exhibition.

• Makes the cover of the reissue of his mother's book "A Cabaia", by the International Institute of Macau. 

• Interviewed for the Portuguese edition of the Tai Chung Po newspaper.

• Holds a photography exhibition called Macrocosmos organized by the “Casa de Portugal” in Macau at Ho Yin Gallery at Macau Military Club, resulting in the publication of his fifth photo album. 

2008

• Presented a communication in a session promoted by IPOR (Portuguese Institute of the East) on the Life and Work of his Mother, Deolinda da Conceição.

• Curator of a gigantic exhibition of Greek Art of the Classical Period from the Louvre,  Plato in the land of Confucius, to be followed by a conference under the same name, addressed to the Chinese Community of Macau.

• Prepares your sixth photo album.

• On October 10, the album and exhibition Primum Lumen (Primordial Light) is released at the Military Club Gallery

• Member of the Selection Jury of the Exhibition Inner Sights referring to the Competition for the whole of China for videos and photographs of Body Art.

• In memory of his Father, born in 1910, athlete from Sporting Clube de Portugal and national champion of 5 x 80 meters relay in 1928 and 1930, he created a blog for the reactivation of Branch 25, Sporting Clube de Macau.

2009

• Elected Chairman of the Sporting Clube de Macau Board. He fights for causes and seeks to sportively reinforce the Portuguese presence in Macau.

• Invited as a designer, he exhibits Jewelery and footwear at the opening of the Creative Center located in the former Albergue to Bairro de S. Lázaro in Macau.

• Member of the Selection Board for the representation of Macau at the Venice Biennale.

• Invited to exhibit at the Youth Foundation, in Porto, a selection of 32 works from his last series of photographs Primum Lumen, inaugurated on 22 September.

• Invited to participate, individually, in the Shiwan Ceramics meeting presenting a communication.

• Member of the Selection Jury of the Macau representation at the 2009 Venice Biennale.

2010

• Reissue and release in Macau of the Comic Book Album WONG FEI HONG - WIND OF SANTUNG.

• Invited to participate in the Shiwan Ceramics meeting, being awarded the title of honorary consultant.

• Invited by Sporting Portugal writes chronicles that are gathered under the title Green Chronicles.

2011

• Creates, at the invitation of the Macao Post Offiece, as a matter of urgency, the first stamp issue of the year.

• Revista Macau writes an article entitled fashion according to António Conceição Júnior

• Invited to a program about Macau designers on TDM's Chinese Channel.

• Invited again to be a member of the Selection Jury of the Macau representation at the Venice Biennale.

• Interviewed by the Macau Daily Times, addressing one of his favorite topics: The Creative City.

• Launch of his first book "Conversaations of Tea and Coffee" focusing on East-West dialogues.

• The renowned journalist Hélder Fernando interviews him for Today Macau about the book.

2012

• On the 6th of January, launch in Lisbon, at the Economic and Commercial Delegation of Macau, of his book Conversas do Chá e do Café (Conversations of Tea and Coffee).

Revista Macau (Macau Magazine) March publishes its profile by the journalist Hélder Beja.

2013

• Under his presidency, Sporting Clube de Macau becomes Champion of the 2nd. Division with 13 consecutive wins and 4 games at the end of the championship.

• Presents on 13 June the photo exhibition Transits with simultaneous release of the photo album of the same name, his sixth album.

• Following the Transits exhibition, supplement h of Jornal Hoje Macau dedicates to him several pages.

2014

• Holds the photo exhibition Territories, and his seventh photo album, whose presentation is made by anthropologist and journalist, Carlos Morais José. He is also interviewed for Hoje Macau, Ponto Final and Tribuna de Macau

2015

• Launching on January 29 of his second book, "Escritos de Amor e Desafecto - Crónicas de Cidadania". Interviews in Hoje Macau and Ponto Final newspaper.

• Resumes a cycle of chronicles in the daily Hoje Macau, under the title Urbanities, with the texts gathered in a blog that he created for this purpose.

2016

Territories photographic exhibition at the Macao Scientific and Cultural Center in Lisbon, with the support of the Macau International Institute and with the presence of Dr. Jorge Rangel, President of IIM.

2017

• In November held a lecture on Manuel da Silva Mendes at the Macau Military Clube, under the theme “The Artistic Legacy of Manuel da Silva Mendes.”

2018

• Launches the book QUOTIDIANOS in Macau, in February, at the Consulate General of Portugal in Macau.

• His previous year's Lecture on Manuel da Silva Mendes becomes part of the Second Volume of Memories and Thoughts by Manuel da Silva Mendes, published by a group of schollars, admirers of Silva Mendes.

• In July, he presents at the Rui Cunha Foundation, a Lecture on Afonso de Albuquerque towards the Apogee of the Discoveries.

• In the same month, with the support of the International Institute of Macau, chaired by Dr. Jorge Rangel and with a presentation by Dr. António Aresta, QUOTIDIANOS is launched at the Scientific and Cultural Center of Macau in Lisbon.

2019

• In January, at the Rui Cunha Foundation, he is invited to the "Evening with Stories" where he presents a lecture entitled "Macao Culture Episodes of the 20th Century".
